D. Flat Glass and glazing
E. Caulking
1.03 QUALITY ASSURANCE
A. MANUFACTURER'S QUALIFICATIONS
Provide units produced by a firm with not less than 5 years successful experience in the
fabrication of automatic doors of the type required for this project.
B. INSTALLER'S QUALIFICATIONS
Engage an installer who is an authorized representative of the revolving door
manufacturer for both the installation and maintenance of the type of units required for
this project.
C. BUILDING CODES
Provide Revolving doors and automatic pedestrian door operators that will comply with NFPA
101 and other applicable local building codes.
1.04 SUBMITTALS
A. PRODUCT DATA
Submit manufacturer's product data and standard details for automatic doors,
including fabrication, finishing hardware, operators, accessories, and other components of
the work. Include rough-in diagrams, wiring diagrams, parts lists, and maintenance
instructions, as well as certified test data (where required).
B. TEMPLATES AND DIAGRAMS
Furnish templates, diagrams, and other data to fabricators and installers of
related work, as needed for coordination of automatic entrance installation.
C. SHOP DRAWINGS
Submit shop drawings for the fabrication and installation of automatic entrance
doors and associated components of the work. Indicate anchors, joint system, expansion
provisions, hardware, and other components not included in manufacturer's standard data.
Include glazing details (where required).
1.05 WARRANTY
Units to be warranted against defect in material and workmanship for a period of one year
from the date of installation.
PART II - PRODUCT
2.01 MANUFACTURER
Revolving door shall be of types and sizes as indicated on plans, and as
manufactured by Horton Automatics, and as supplied by Eastern Door Service, Inc. (800)
390-5521 http://www.EDSDoors.com.
2.02 EQUIPMENT
A. DOOR TYPE
Manual Revolving Door in three or four wing construction
Option: Return-to-Quarterpoint feature.
Option: Electronic Speed Regulator (in lieu of standard mechanical)
B. SPEED CONTROL
The factory set overhead mechanical speed regulator shall be concealed
with in the door's canopy. Floor mounted speed controls are subject
to corrosion and damage from water and salt and will not be
acceptable. The mechanical speed control shall prevent the door from
operating beyond 12 RPM or the maximum allowable speed as allowed by local
codes.
Option: Electronic Speed
Regulator
A solid state electronic speed control located overhead shall provide "friction
free" rotation up to 2 RPM lower than the governed speed (12 RPM max). An optical
sensing circuit shall monitor door speed and apply resistance to door rotation in 3 levels
according to door speed. Centrifugal mechanical systems shall not be considered equal.
Speed adjusting shall be by simple "volume control" potentiometer speed
adjustment not requiring removal or resealing of the speed control mechanism.
C. RETURN-TO-QUARTERPOINT OPTION
Regardless of release position, the door will return to the normal quarterpoint position
at a slow speed (1 RPM) and stop. The mechanism shall also assist in the mechanical
resistance caused by normal friction surfaces (weatherstrip, door weight). Optional wall
safety edges can also be included to stop assisted operation when activated. This feature
will not be considered an automatic operator. Door speeds will be kept less than 1 1/2
RPM.
2.03 FINISH
Specify: Anodized or painted aluminum, stainless steel or bronze cladding.
2.04 ENCLOSURE
The enclosure shall be constructed so that proper clearance shall be maintained and
weather seal assured.
2.05 DOOR CONSTRUCTION
The 1 3/4" (45 mm) wide, Narrow stile - 2 3/8" (60 mm) or Medium stile - 3
3/4" (95 mm) door wings to be constructed of aluminum extrusions of 6063T5 alloy to
ensure frame rigidity and high impact resistance. Horizontal rails on door wings shall
have sloped stops. An intermediate muntin bar or pushbar is to be furnished on each wing
for safety and division of glass.
2.06 CANOPY
Provide canopy to match contour of the enclosure. (Optional round canopy on segmented
enclosure). Canopy sides to be furnished in aluminum panel. Provide aluminum clad plywood
.060"/.75" - (1.5/19 mm) for interior ceiling. Optional: Exterior roof
fabricated from .090" - (2 mm) anodized aluminum.
2.07 HARDWARE/WEATHERSTRIPPING
Door wings shall be provided with manufacturer's standard muntins or pushbars. Provide
locks with five pin cylinders and concealed bolts. A sweep shall be affixed to each wing
to provide adequate weatherstripping and ensure weatherseal. Lower shaft bearing shall be
surface mounted not requiring excavation beneath the floor line.
2.08 CEILING LIGHTS (OPTIONAL)
Furnish two ceiling lights with energy efficient lighting systems with flush lens.
2.09 GLASS
A. ROUND DOOR:
Wings: 1/4" (6 mm) tempered
Walls: 7/16" (12 mm) laminated safety glass
B. SEGMENTED DOOR:
Wings: 1/4" (6 mm) tempered
Walls: 1/4" (6 mm) tempered
Segmented walls and wing system can accommodate up to 1" (25
mm) glazing.
2.10 REQUIREMENTS FOR ELECTRICAL WORK BY OTHERS
The Electrical Contractor shall furnish and install all wiring to speed control.
Provide 120 VAC, 60 cycle, 1 phase, 15 amp service to each speed control (header) on a
separate circuit breaker routed into header. Remote switches (if specified) shall be
provided with control wire and electrical boxes from switches to operators. Remote
switches provided under this section shall be installed by the electrical contractor.
NOTE: Maximum current draw is 5 amps per speed control protected by internal circuit
breaker in speed control.
PART III - EXECUTION
3.01 INSPECTION
Installer must examine the areas and conditions under which automatic doors are to be
installed and notify the Contractor in writing of conditions detrimental to the proper and
timely completion of work. Do not proceed with the work until all unsatisfactory
conditions have been corrected in a manner acceptable to the installer and in accordance
with approved shop drawings.
3.02 INSTALLATION
Comply with specifications and recommendations. Set track and operator plumb, level and
true to line, without warp or rack of doors. Anchor securely in place. Isolate aluminum
and other corrodible materials from sources of electrolytic action at points of contact.
Install complete door operator system in accordance with manufacturer's instructions,
including drive mechanism, controls, and control switches.
3.03 ADJUST AND CLEAN
Adjust operator and controls for optimum condition and safety. Lubricate operating
equipment. Clean surfaces promptly after installation, exercising care to avoid damage of
the protective coating (if any). Advise contractor of protective treatment and other
precautions required through the remainder of the construction period, to ensure that
doors will be without damage or deterioration (other than normal weathering) at the time
of acceptance.
